Welcome to our virtual roundtable series

Topical debates with local experts

As Reading begins its road to recovery, we debate some key issues with Reading's local business leaders. Join our discussions as we share ideas and ask how, together, we can make Reading a better, smarter, more sustainable, inclusive and attractive place to live, work and play.

Reading: an inclusive workforce?

How do we make Reading's workforce more resilient?
What are the key issues affecting Reading's workforce? How has Covid-19 impacted our young people, and what part do employers and the self-employed play? We're joined by a panel of local experts from key organisations, including Reading Borough Council, Education Business Partnership, Activate Learning, Reading UK and Creative Locale, as we discuss what can be done to support Reading's workforce through to recovery.

Reading: a destination of choice?

How do we ensure Reading recovers as a great place to live, work and do business?
How will Covid-19 affect the workplace? Will we see workers return to the town centre, or is the office dead? How are occupiers responding to the pandemic? We ask a panel of Reading property experts, including Mapletree, M&G, Vail Williams and Parkinson Holt what they think the future has in store for Reading as a business location.

Reading: a sustainable city of the future?

How do we take advantage of technology to rebuild a more sustainable economy for Reading?
One of the three focus areas for Reading's Economic Recovery Strategy is 'Smart Reading' - a city which harnesses its technological, research and business capabilities to balance economic growth while meeting our obligations to reduce the carbon footprint. In this roundtable, we're joined by Stantec, University of Reading, The Climate Change Partnership and Altitude Angels as we ask what we can be doing to use, enhance and embrace technology to help Reading recover in a sustainable and inclusive way.

Reading: a leisure destination?

How do we ensure Reading recovers as a great place to live, work and do business?
Tourism is a key strand of Reading's Economic Recovery Strategy and there is no doubt that retail and hospitality have been some of the hardest-hit industries from the Covid-19 pandemic. Joined by Hilton Hotels, The Roseate Hotel, Reading UK, Museum of English Rural Life and Visit Thames, we ask what can be done to support the sector and help Reading become a successful leisure destination.

Reading: a city ready to recover?

How do we ensure Reading recovers as a great place to live, work and do business?

In November 2020, Reading UK launched Powered by People, Reading's Economic Recovery and Renewal Plan, in partnership with the Council and local organisations. This roundtable looks at the very essence of the strategy and asks what we all need to do, to help recover and renew the economy. Hosted by Adam Jacobs, Jacobs the Jewellers and Chairman of Reading UK, the panel of local business leaders includes Reading UK, Barton Willmore, Reading Borough Council and The Oracle Shopping Centre.
